I'm well-aware we don't exactly have a "rules" topic or page for the wiki. Probably should, but with mixed opinions from all the Admin its kinda...
Well anyway, I know these are the most common of Rules on any Wiki, as well as the fact that I've seen this stuff happen several times before to know it shouldn't be allowed. Basically, follow them to avoid having your head chewed up by an Admin.
....
I am just kidding, mind you.
Anyhoo... this will be in sections. Please ask questions if you have any.
Duplicate Images
This basically goes without saying- when you add duplicate images this causes issues. Like page names and links, the images are the same. If you were to say, remove, tamper, or delete an image, it could cause several pages to look strange or show a flaw due to the image no longer being there. It also wastes space in the wiki's database, as well as the fact that it kinda cheeses off Jo. Now, accidentally doing it once or twice isn't a crime- but if you upload several images we already have... yeah. Please LOOK before you upload an image. If you have any doubts feel free to ask around, some members may be able to point you out in the right direction. If you see any duplicate images feel free to report it to an Admin.
Page Making
We have several users capable of doing this already. Please just ask first if you're not one of them or have no idea what you are doing. Again, this can cause problems deep in the several thousand links that make up a Wiki. When trying to make a Page, please use another for reference. Use good grammar, make sure its labled correctly, etc.
Multiple Edits Within a Short Time Span on the Same Topic
This is kind of another hot button issue in that it happens frequently but it can be difficult to tell if its for good reasons or malicious. By that I mean, undoing another Users edit because you don't like it being over yours, or going through to change something because you think its correct, or just doing it for the sake of Badge Hunting (see next section). Now, there is the occasion where you may not realize a mistake until after you publish your edit. That is perfectly acceptable. But if you do it about 5 times in a row without listing reason why, then it looks suspicious.
Badge Hunting
(Told you)
Badges are a fun little gimmick on the wiki to encourage editing. A way for a user who show off their achievements, etc. HOWEVER, it is NOT okay to EVER Badge-Hunt. This is when a user deliberatly spam-edits, uploads images (duplicates or not) and puts them wherever, makes silly edits just to fix it in about two or three more edits of the same article, or makes a fake blog post.
Wikia editing is NOT for badges. Its to have fun, share your enjoyment of a series, and to help provide information.
Now if You Break a Rule....
Keep in mind, We Admin don't want to have to scold, chastise, or sternly speak with you guys. We don't want to play bad cop, or get accused of bull just because we're doing OUR jobs. We give everyone more chances than they probably deserve (not that I'm naming anyone in particular...). It isn't personal, it isn't because we hate you. We're doing what WE HAVE to do.
So please, keep this in mind. If you break a rule or tick someone off, you will hear from us. But we will always give you a second and third chance to make up for it. Don't turn the members of the wiki against you. Show that you're not a jerk or a bad person trying to rile everyone up...
Unless you are, in which case expect to be banned.
